Organisations face a need, we believe, for tools to help them deal with the growing obligations of Regulatory Compliance. Under the umbrella of the Health and Safety regulations a growing number of new responsibilities are being brought into Law with new obligations for organisations of all sizes to comply. These are not always publicised as widely or clearly or effectively as desired and many organisations are still unaware or unclear about them. An example is The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which came into force in October 2006 which now places a legal responsibility to conduct fire risk assessments square on employers.
Under the Corporate Manslaughter Act, in extremis, lack of compliance may lead to a fatality, and businesses and their management may face criminal charges.
Latterly we have seen the Bribery Act 2010 introduced with a new offence of failing to prevent bribery.
We won’t attempt here to list all the regulations which organizations must comply with – there is not room and you probably would not have time to read it all here anyway.
Clearly the approach to addressing these issues differs enormously depending on the size of organisation.
